Made a few changes, mine is mains powered, a 25 watt lightbulb wired to a cord and a crayfish 15 litre bin from payless plastics. No thermostat, just a thermometer from the $2 shop to keep a eye on temperture as I couldn't find a thermostat cheap enough for the job so far. Its staying between 92f and 102f so hopefully out of the 14 fertile eggs I bought on trademe 80% will hatch, I hope. Hatch rate will be lower than u… Continue

Welcome to all those interested in sustainable living. As you have read, RaVeN has been busy building the fancy chicken coop (more like a penthouse really). Will go perfectly with the worm farm. Hope the chickens love feijoas and tamarillos as we seem to have those in abundance. Ayla is so excited by the chickens and not even phased by the thought that we might end up eating some of them - she is a true child of the land.

Just about finished building my latest project. lol Its a chicken tractor. Started it all off with buying four Brown shaver 1 week old chicks off trademe and we are up and running. A quick trip to RD 1 for chicken feed and feeders, along with 10 metres of chicken netting a few hinges and we are away!
The plan is too produce free range eggs and maybe start hatching extra chicks for replacing our stock and for sale.
So the next project will be to build a incubator for less than $10
